Check into your hotel and get some much needed sleep!

Hotel: Long Street Boutique Hotel or Protea Waterfront Hotel

Day 2: Explore Cape Town

Start your day with a gondola ride up Table Mountain that soars over 1,000 meters above the city below. We suggest the first slot of 8:30am in hopes the “tablecloth” will not be covering the area and the views will be magnificent. Tickets must be booked as far in advance as possible.

The rest of the day there are many options for exploring:  full-day tour by a local who will take you to some of the most iconic spots in the city!  She will also give you all the locals only spots to enjoy some of the best food Cape Town has to offer.

Day 3: Explore Cape Town

Today is a great day to explore the V&A Waterfront and have some fresh seafood at one of the many incredible restaurants on offer. You can pick up your rental car a day early if you’d like to explore this area, go to Boulder Beach to see the penguins or just get to know the area.

Day 4: Pick-up Rental Car & Drive to Oudtshoorn

Grab a coffee to go and pick up your car rental just a few blocks from your hotel at BIDVEST CAR RENTAL office. It’s a long drive (4-5 hours). A good place to stop half way is in the quaint town of Montagu to stretch your legs or grab a snack. Montagu was founded on the farm Uitvlugt in 1851, and is known for its hot mineral springs and scenic mountains. Montagu is also known for its dried fruit so it’s a great place to stock up on snack for the rest of your trip!

Hotel:  Buffelsdrift Game Lodge & Reserve

Day 4-5: Enjoy Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo Desert

Enjoy your stay at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge on 3,000 hectares of private game reserve. You’ll be staying in the true South African style unique luxury tents. With the Swartberg mountains as backdrop and a magnificent waterhole at your doorstep, it’s the closest you’ll get to the wild of the Klein Karoo and true African accommodations. The staff is incredibly warm and the food is fantastic!

The town of Oudtshoorn is a quirky little town with some hidden gems for restaurants such as Nostalgie and Jemima’s. Make sure to go to an Ostrich Farm which is fascinating, fun and informative. The Cango Caves is a must see but reservations are a must so we’re happy to make those for you. There are great places to shop, especially for items with Ostrich skin/leather and feathers. You’ll also want to make sure to take part in activities that the lodge have for you: Safari Game Drive, Walk with the Elephants, Meerkat Safari, Lion Feeding & more.

Day 6: Drive to Plettenberg Bay

It’s a gorgeous drive to Plettenberg Bay in the Garden Route of the Western Cape.  We highly recommend you stop in Knysna for a nice lunch at the Knysna Waterfront at 34 South Restaurant as they have excellent food. After you’ve gotten your fill, it’s a quick 30 minute drive from Knysna to Plettenberg Bay where you’ll enjoy the following week in this seaside town.

Hotel: The Bungalow Beach Hotel or Stunning Hilltop Self Catering or many other options to suit you!

Day 7-8: Plettenberg Bay

Choose from many activities such as a tour of the local wineries (they pick-up and drop off at your hotel), a hike on Robberg Nature Reserve (World Heritage Site), get out on the sea for an Ocean Safari, Kayak in the beautiful calm Keurbooms river or visit one of the many wildlife rescues in the area.

For restaurants there are plenty of options. Our favorite restaurants are Fat Fish by Central Beach, The Lookout Deck on Lookout Beach, Nineteen 89, The Table, Enrico’s Ristorante in Keurbooms (closed Mondays) & Emily Moon, which is situated by a river just 10 minutes outside of Plett Central. So many options!

Birds of Eden has over 3,500 birds from over 220 species, with the main focus being African birds. It’s a beautiful walk on nice walkways and you’ll feel like you’re deep in the jungle or forest in several areas. After you get the most amazing photos, you can also walk across the way to Monkeyland.

Monkeyland is the world’s first free-roaming multi-species primate sanctuary during which you’ll see more than 700 primates comprising of capuchin monkeys, ringtail and black-and-white ruffed lemurs, saki monkeys, squirrel monkeys, vervet monkeys, 2 species of langur, howler monkeys, gibbons, etc in their forest home.

Day 9:  Return Rental Car in Plettenberg Bay, Private Driver to George Airport, Flight to Johannesburg

Return your car in Plett central at a designated time and your private driver will meet you there and drive you to George Airport for your afternoon flight. It is not possible to get to Kruger Park before the gates close so you’ll need to spend one night at the airport. There are two hotels actually connected to the airport so you have your choice. The Intercontinental is the closest (but also the more expensive).

Hotel: Intercontinental Airport Hotel or City Lodge OR Tambo Airport Hotel

Day 10: Car Rental, Drive to Kruger National Park

Both Intercontinental and City Lodge are right by the Car Rental counters.  After breakfast, grab your luggage and go to your car rental counter.  Present our passport, Driver’s License and a credit card and they’ll set you up with your rental car which has been previously reserved for you. You can ask the counter assistant to help you program the GPS to Pretorioskop in Kruger Park. There is no GPS in the airport garage so you need to try to get some general direction before heading out.  It will kick in once you go a few minutes but there are many turns/options before it does. Even asking for a hard map to help you get headed the right direction will be helpful.

Drive to Kruger Park. This is a 5.5 hour drive so make sure to grab some snacks or stop at a garage/gas station once you're out of the city. Garages/Gas Stations are the best place to stop for snacks and to use their bathrooms. They are normally well signed ahead of time, easy to pull off and back onto the highway.

Driving to Pretorioskop Rest Camp, you actually drive through the National Park so you’ll be on a game drive part of the way. Make sure to drive slowly once you enter the park and keep your eyes open for wildlife!

Lodging:  Pretorioskop Rest Camp

Day 11-13: Enjoy Kruger National Park

Pretorioskop has everything you need. There is a little shop for food, a restaurant (Wimpy’s-think of a Denny’s type of place), a beautiful pool and Game Drives that you sign up for at Reception. This is a large property with all different types of accommodations and camping. You’ll be staying in a private free-standing bungalow with A/C, heat and en-suite bathroom.  You can also go driving by yourself but make sure you go on at least one professionally driven Game Drive or you’ll miss out on so much!

Day 14: Drive to Johannesburg, Turn in Rental Car, Fly Out

Today you’ll drive from Kruger Park to the airport. The GPS will have Car Return as an option so you’ll return the car and then walk to your hotel. Make sure to leave extra time for any traffic in Joberg and be at the airport 3 hours before any international flight as well as an extra hour to return your rental car. If you have an early flight, you will need to drive from Kruger and stay one night at the airport the night before.

We hope you had an AMAZING stay!
