Getting around South Africa can be both an adventure and a challenge. Depending on where you're coming from
and how long you've traveled to get here, we'll help find you the right transportation to suit your needs!
We work with local companies, people & drivers we know so you'll be well looked after.
If you want the freedom of renting a car we highly recommend you get a car closer to your destination rather than from one of the large cities which can be stressful to navigate. We will help you reserve your car from any location and help advise you what will be the easiest for your trip. One-way rentals may cost a bit extra but many times they are well worth it!
If you drive on the right side of the road (not the left like here in SA), we highly suggest you rent an AUTOMATIC even if you drive a manual at home. Why? Remember that you sit in the right side of the car so your left hand does the shifting!
The top two International Airports that most people fly into to get into South Africa:
If you are looking at visiting PLETTENBERG BAY:
Please note that Johannesberg is about a 12 hour drive (not recommended) and Cape Town about 6 hours so we suggest you fly into one of the closer Airports:
The most stress-free way to get around in a foreign country is to hire a private driver. Everybody is different so we know some of you want the freedom of a car rental (see below) while others do not want the hassle! Taxis are not recommended so your two options are either Car Rental (self-drive/see below) or Private Driver. We are here to help guide you through the process and make your time in this region of beautiful South Africa a once in a lifetime journey.
Although Plett Airport seems like the right choice to get here, due to high winds (and smaller planes), many times flights get re-routed back to George. So when we fly, we ALWAYS fly into/out of George and Mango and Safair usually have the best times & prices. Also many International flights arrive too late to take the next domestic flight so it's best to stay at the Intercontinental or City Lodge connected to the airport for one night if you get in late. This also goes for your flight out of the country, you need to check the flight times and make sure you have enough transfer time to make your next flight.
Airlines servicing the area:
Note that these smaller airlines do have very restrictive Luggage Policies so a lot of luggage means a lot of fees so take that into account when packing or planning your trip budget! Below are links to each of the domestic carrier's rules on baggage:
